TV to Laptop video signal?
My laptop screen recently broke and I am trying to connect it with my Standard Definition TV. My TV only has an S-Video port, and my laptop doesn’t. My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Y430. It was just bought for this past Christmas and my idea was to get this –

with an S-Video extension cord, so that I could hook it up to my laptop. I don’t know if my graphics card supports the TV-Out function, or if it is just as easy as hooking the wires up, and setting the TV on TV-Video mode.
Will it work like this or do I need something else??
For the low price of the adaptor, it is worth trying. There is a good chance it will work, especially since your laptop is so new and most new ones will support tv out. You may have to play with the function keys to get output to the VGA out. For picture quality though you would do better buying a regular monitor than trying to hook up to the tv.
Odd – I looked up the Y430 and it shows an S-video socket on the R side next to the hinge.
