Which laptop is the best for its price?
I’m looking for a new laptop to replace my current Dell Inspiron. Since I can’t afford a Macbook or Thinkpad, what are the next best units? I ended up returning a Lenovo 3000 N100 twice because the model has a graphics/driver flaw.
What about Toshiba Satellite? Sony VAIO? HP Pavilion?
I need to stay under $800. I don’t think I want another Dell- this one had lots of problems and they have poor tech support.
Would love to hear from experienced notebook users- not just the “Ive heard a Dell is good” crowd.
i still recommend the new HP Pavilion dv2000 series (14.1″ display) or dv6000 series (15.4″ display). i have a good experience with it. HP has a pretty good customer service. keep in mind that these laptops only have the new ExpressCard slot. in case you need a laptop with PCMCIA (PC card) slot, you can chose a Toshiba Satellite instead (A105, P105 or M115 series). you can go directly to the manufacturer homepage and order it from there (HP offer also a customization) or have a look at Circuit City, they sell a wide variety of laptops of these two brands.

select the corresponding brand on the left side (the problem with Circuit City is they don’t offer laptops with dedicated graphics cards, only with integrated Intel GMA 950 or similar with shared memory).
