My Lenovo Thinkpad T400’s display turns off and takes a minute to come back when Windows starts up?

When I turn on my laptop the display flickers off and stays a dark screen for about a minute or 2 before coming back on. I have no idea what the problem could be. I udpated my video card to the latest drivers (ATI Radeon Mobility 3600). Any help on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

The master boot record might have gotten corrupted. If you have a startup disk, insert it and wait for the a:\> prompt. Then type c:\ fixmbr. If the screen goes off again like it has been when you try this, then the problem is probably a bad video card or motherboard. It could also be an overheating processor because there are no beep codes.
